A Little Boost

I can't lie and say it wasn't a mood booster when I went to The Cafe in NKC tonight to get a carry out order, and on my ticket I was not identified as my name, but as "Cute Girl". I thought maybe it was a weird mistake when I saw it, but when the guy came out with my food and I overheard him say to the hostess "Is this for the cutie?", and she said yes, I couldn't help but smile...even if it was a bit inappropriate.

Toddlers and Tiaras

Toddlers and Tiaras is a pretty disgusting show(it's about beauty pageants that have babies and toddlers competing There was a baby in a two piece. I'm not kidding). I watched about ten minutes of it, and heard a doozy of a quote from a father about his 3 or 4 year old who fell on stage: "For the most part I'm proud of her, I think." For the most part? You THINK? Dude, she's 4. They fall...all the time. Especially when you put them in toddler "evening gowns" with giant poofy skirts. Sickos. I feel so sorry for these kids. Their parents are crazy.

Giving Up Brain Rot

I'd like to do a bit of spring cleaning with my lifestyle. Get rid of or edit some of my habits, if you will, and replace them with better ones. You'll notice that it's not January 1st, so they are not resolutions, merely goals.

Goal 1: Eliminate tv to one or two shows per week.
I can easily give up most of the crap I watch, but I simply cannot give up the Office. I also really like Big Love and True Blood on HBO. These alternate seasons, so I will never be watching both at once. I've actually already started this goal. There isn't anything I watch on Tuesday nights. I half-heartedly watch the Bachelor on Mondays(just waiting for the "Deanna Returns" episode, and I watch the Office on Thursdays. That's it. I had been watching Heroes, but dumped it around Christmas. It was irritating, and I never caught up. I got sad that Pushing Daisies was discontinued, so didn't watch the last 4 episodes. I'm over Scrubs, reality shows make my mind numb, and there you have it. No mas tv, with the exception of two shows. R and I have already decided that once we're married and living together, we're not going to purchase cable to not only save money, but to free up our time to do other fun things together. It will also help in not distracting me from my school work next year, b/c it's going to be busy!

While we're on the topic, I am not giving up movies. This is mainly b/c I rarely watch movies during the week and by myself. I will probably downgrade my Block Buster account to just one movie at a time, and I am no longer giving myself the option of watching a show or movie once in bed for the night to fall asleep to. Which brings us to goal 2...

Goal 2: Read More. A Lot More.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have a stack of books about as tall as I am that I need to get through...and that I'm excited to get through. I've just always chosen to fall asleep to a movie, than to reading. I've been going a couple weeks strong now on reading before bed time. Not only do I have a lot of books to read, but I read that it's good to stay away from the computer and tv at least an hour before going to sleep. I'm already sleeping better, and not waking up during the night nearly as much as I used to. I'm making a deal with myself that I can only buy a book in exchange for having finished 1-3 books first. If I am hanging out with you, please don't allow me to go into a Barnes and Noble.

Goal 3: No alcohol during the week.
Not that I ever drank much during the week, but I would have wine with dinner some nights. I've already been doing this one for about 3 weeks now, and really haven't had much on the weekends. Its been hard saying no to wine with dinner to my dad, but I've held strong. I'm actually tempted to go all of March(even though I know St. Patrick's day is in March) without any alcoholic beverages. This is mainly a health thing, b/c I am trying to get healthy.

Goal 4: Go to the gym 3-5 times a week. Preferably five.
So far, so good. Last week I did 3 workouts. I've mixed it up with Wii, my mini-tramp, and the gym. This week I have been to the gym once so far, and plan to go again for the rest of the week. My goal is to obtain a healthy BMI, and to shed about 20 lbs. by the end of May or June. I've been using www.sparkpeople.com(it's free!) to track what I'm eating and my workouts. (It's a pretty sweet site, and tells you how many calories you should have each day, and how many you've eaten. It also recommends a daily(well, five days) amount of exercise and calories that you should burn off. It. Is. Handy.). Friends, I need your encouragement on this one, especially if we eat out together. Healthy, healthy, healthy!

There you have it. Goals. All attainable, and already in action. Go! Go! GO!

Look at the Sky

Bloody hell, the sky was beautiful Monday. Who would've thought that February could be so pretty and have 60/70 degree weather? Clearly this means our planet is falling apart, but at least there are pretty pictures along the way...
